Description
"The Angels Unawares by Timothy Schmalz - Statue's portrait PART V" is a nocturnal photographic shot that portrays the detail of the "Statue" installed in St. Peter's Square, near the Vatican CITY St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy. This statue, inaugurated by Pope Francis, is dedicated to the theme of immigration. The Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz, to create it, drew inspiration from the letter to the Hebrews: "Do not forget hospitality; some, practicing it, without knowing it has welcomed angels ”.
This statue depicts a raft loaded with migrants, with 140 life-size men and women, all huddled together, all with the same fear on their faces and the same hope of a better life in their eyes, while belonging to cultures and different times. At the center of the work stand out the wings of an angel, which indicates the sacredness that hovers over these people and the invitation of the Church to welcome them.
