The image shows a male mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos) in the water. This aquatic bird is the most widespread wild duck species in Europe and Italy and is the progenitor of most domestic breeds.
The male is easily recognizable by its glossy bottle green head, a white ring around its neck, and dark brown chest.
It is a surface duck, which means that it feeds mainly in shallow water by submerging only its head and front of its body.
Mallards are highly adaptable and can be found in a wide range of aquatic habitats.
The species is widespread throughout the world, from Europe to Asia and North America.
